As the 2025 high tourist season approaches, Playa del Carmen is grappling with a significant influx of sargassum seaweed along its coastlines. Despite the challenges, three beaches—Playa 72, Xcalacoco, and Montecarlo—have notably maintained minimal sargassum presence, offering respite to visitors and locals alike.​

These beaches benefit from unique coastal configurations and current patterns that naturally deter sargassum accumulation. In contrast, areas like Punta Esmeralda and El Recodo are experiencing substantial seaweed deposits, necessitating intensified cleanup efforts.
