Brazil To Soon Reimpose Visa Requirements On U.S., Canadian, And Australian Travelers

As of October 1, visitors from the United States, Canada and Australia will again need a visa.

The reintroduction of the reciprocity policy by the new government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which took office in early 2023 is the cause.

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former president, abolished the reciprocity policy in 2019 and exempted these three countries from visa requirements to boost inbound international tourism.

The current government sees no reason to make it easier for these citizens to travel to the popular South American country, as these countries still require visas from Brazilian nationals.
