MONTREAL — The World Anti-Doping Agency has called cycling’s international governing body (UCI) “deceitful” and “arrogant” after it shut down its own independent commission into doping.
Monday, the UCI disbanded the panel it put together to review any involvement it had in the Lance Armstrong scandal to instead set up a separate amnesty-style “truth and reconciliation commission.”
WADA says it “has not and will not consider partaking in any venture with UCI while this unilateral and arrogant attitude continues.”
WADA says the UCI’s claim that the anti-doping agency would work on the new commission was incorrect, saying, “This is not only wrong in content and process, but again deceitful.”
WADA also says it never questioned the independence of the panel, “but solely the ability of the commission to work properly under the contract given by UCI.”
