In 1950 Formula 1 contested its fourth season, but the first in which a driver was crowned champion, the inaugural FIA World Championship of Drivers. Over seven races between May and September that year drivers battled at circuits including the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500, and when the dust settled Giuseppe “Nino” Farina was the first Drivers’ Champion.
F1 was truly born that year.
To help commemorate that campaign, and to launch the sport’s 75th anniversary season, F1 is holding a first-ever season launch event Tuesday at The O2 in London. All ten teams will attend, with their drivers and team principals, to launch their liveries
