Washington considers ‘Alyssa’s Law’ for heightened school security

Washington’s “Alyssa’s Law” would honor a victim of a Florida school shooting.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A school shooting in Florida could result in security upgrades in Washington state schools.

Senate Bill 5004 would require school districts to update their emergency response systems and upgrade security measures. If passed, it will be known as “Alyssa’s Law,” in memory of Alyssa Alhadef.

The 14-year-old was killed in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneham Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen students and staff members died in the shooting on Feb. 14, 2018.
