Eight businesses in Seattle’s U-District met Tuesday with U.S. Senator Patty Murray to discuss their financial challenges in the wake of Trump’s global tariffs.
SEATTLE — Despite President Donald Trump’s 90-day pause on global tariffs, small businesses in Seattle’s University District said the effects are already being felt.
“Coffee prices globally are higher than I’ve ever seen them,” said Chris Peterson, owner of Café Allegro — a popular coffee shop known as the oldest in Seattle, located near the University of Washington campus.
Peterson imports bags for his coffee from China and unroasted coffee beans from Latin America and South Africa.
