After the first vote drop on Tuesday evening, the congresswoman from Southwest Washington was leading with nearly 26% of the vote. Her Democratic challenger, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, had nearly 23%, just a few points behind the second place Republican, Joe Kent, with 25%. Heidi St. John trailed further behind with 18% of early ballots.
At issue in District 3, in the Vancouver, Wash., area, is whether a vote to impeach President Donald Trump after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol annoyed local Republicans enough that they needed to find a replacement for Herrera Beutler.
