Thousands of bicyclists embark on annual Seattle to Portland fundraiser ride

Participants in the annual summer fundraiser bike over 200 miles in two days.

SEATTLE — At sunrise on Saturday, about 5,000 bicyclists pedaled off from the University of Washington for the 45th annual Seattle to Portland ride.

The Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland presented by Alaska Airlines, better known as STP for short, is an annual 206-mile bike ride.

Some bike the entire route in one day, and many make it a two-day journey, stopping to camp at the halfway point in Centralia and Chehalis. It ends at Holladay Park in downtown Portland.
