There could be more winter-like weather to come for western Washington

Western Washington may face cooler and wetter conditions this spring as the La Niña pattern persists.

SEATTLE — We’ve made it to the end of another La Niña winter, and this time, La Niña did not slam western Washington with heavy snow in the lowlands. It also underperformed on our mountain snowpack – so far. 

The sea surface temperatures off the west coast of North America might have played a role in that. Sea surface temperatures were slightly cooler than normal and, when that is the case, precipitation has a higher chance to run near or slightly below average.
