Suspect dead after exchange of gunfire with law enforcement in Spanaway

SPANAWAY, Wash — Officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect in Spanaway on Tuesday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. 

The status of the suspect is unclear at this time. 

The incident began when the suspect fired shots at Washington State Patrol (WSP) Troopers after they tried to pull him over for a traffic stop on Interstate 5. 

After WSP advised shots were fired, multiple agencies joined a brief pursuit to the area of 6th Avenue and 205th Street, where the suspect barricaded themselves in a home. 

There were more shots fired by the suspect in Spanaway, and law enforcement exchanged gunfire.
