Chants of “tax the rich” echoed through rotunda in Washington state on Wednesday.
OLYMPIA, Wash. — State employees, fearing budget cut layoffs and furloughs, made sure legislators heard their concerns Wednesday afternoon.
Hundreds yelled and chanted “No cuts! No furloughs! Tax, tax the rich!” in the rotunda and outside of Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office.
Ferguson proposed laying off 1,000 state employees, and requiring others to take unpaid days off, once a month for 24 months to help make up for what he believes could be a potential $16 billion deficit over the next four years.
