SR 11 south of Bellingham reopens after ‘car-sized’ boulders blocked road in rockslide

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Crews have cleared “car-sized” boulders that blocked all lanes of State Route 11 south of Bellingham following a rockslide.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kesley Harding first posed about the closure at 12:40 a.m. Saturday. SR 11 was fully blocked at mile post 13, north of Oyster Creek and about 25 minutes south of Bellingham, along the Samish Bay coast.

The National Weather Service told KING 5 at this time it doesn’t appear the rockslide was due to weather conditions.
