Speed cameras are rolling on I-5

The pilot program will issue notices, not tickets. Permanent cameras will be up to the state legislature.

SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — In an effort to slow people down and reduce the number of yearly deaths on Washington’s roads, speed cameras are being introduced as part of a pilot program.

A total of 810 people died on Washington roads in 2023. That’s the highest number in 33 years, up from 743 in 2022 and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) attributes largely to speed.
