Snohomish County mulls new daycare ordinance to help meet childcare demand

An ordinance would target areas where there is the most growth in the county.

EVERETT, Wash. — Much of Snohomish County is considered a “childcare desert.” 

Approximately 3,500 daycare spots are needed to serve the growing population.

Waits of six months to a year are common. The problem made its way Tuesday to the Snohomish County Council chambers.

A panel discussion was held between daycare providers and council members as they collectively tried to solve one of the most pressing problems facing parents.

The sheer lack of childcare capacity in the county was deemed the number one issue.
