Show’s over for Seattle’s oldest running movie theater

After more than 50 years in its University District location, the Grand Illusion Cinema is closing its doors.

SEATTLE — Seattle’s oldest running movie theater is relocating, after more than 50 years in its University District location.

“Hold the memories of this place in our heart. But I think it’s time to move on and get out of here,” said Brian Alter, the executive director of Grand Illusion Cinema.

The small theaters sits in a nearly 1,200 square foot space in the U District, serving the community for the last 54 years.
