Drivers in Seattle’s Eastlake and South Lake Union neighborhoods will finally have a key bridge restored for service this weekend.
The Seattle Department of Transportation will officially reopen the Fairview Avenue North bridge to cars on Sunday, July 25, following an opening ceremony on Saturday, July 24, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. when bikers and walkers can be the first to access the bridge.
The bridge, which is one of the city’s last wooden bridge supporting a public road, closed in 2019 after crews discovered that the wooden beams holding up a portion of the bridge were beginning to decay and the stabilizing concrete structures had cracked. The city utilized $27 million of
