The bridge was fully closed just before 6 a.m., but is now back open in both directions.
SEATTLE — The George Washington Memorial Bridge in Seattle, also known as the Aurora Bridge, is closed southbound after a “suspected transformer fire.”
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) posted about the bridge closure at 5:52 a.m. Tuesday. Police ask any drivers who utilize the bridge for their morning commute to find an alternate route.
Northbound traffic now appears to be moving along on the bridge, but the southbound lanes remain closed. At least one southbound lane was open as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.
