Seattle PrideFest sees drop in corporate sponsorships, turns to crowdfunding

Seattle PrideFest turned to community fundraising after losing $75,000 in sponsorships, aiming for to cover security and artist payments.

SEATTLE — The organization behind Seattle PrideFest is turning to community fundraising to put on the event after losing tens of thousands of dollars in sponsorship funding.

PrideFest Executive Director Egan Orion said as of April 1, Seattle PrideFest had lost about one-third of its corporate sponsorship funding, about $75,000. The group cited a tougher economic climate for companies as the reason behind the decrease in funding.

To compensate, the organization launched a GoFundMe to raise $75,000 to pay for security and to pay artists.
