Seattle expands CARE responders to South, Southwest neighborhoods

In 2023 the pilot launched in downtown Seattle and expanded to other areas in the city because of its success.

SEATTLE — Mayor Bruce Harrell and community leaders announced Wednesday morning the rollout of CARE department responders to neighborhoods in South and Southwest Seattle. 

The Seattle CARE department works in partnership with police and fire to help people need in of behavioral care. In 2023 the pilot launched in downtown Seattle and expanded to other areas in the city because of its success, according to a release. 

The city CARE responders have assisted community members in over 1,700 events. Nearly half of those responses
