Record-setting temperatures helping UW’s cherry blossom trees reach peak bloom by the end of the week

As temperatures soared past 70 degrees Tuesday, the trees were expected to reach 20-25% bloom by the end of the day.

SEATTLE — With the help of record temperatures across western Washington Tuesday, the popular University of Washington (UW) cherry blossom trees are nearing full bloom.

KING 5 Meteorologist Leah Pezzetti said the cherry blossom trees started Tuesday with about 5% of the flowers blooming. But as temperatures soared past 70 degrees Tuesday, the trees were estimated to reach 20-25% bloom by the end of the day, Pezzetti said.
