Rainbow Bridge program brings joyful animal visits to hospice patients in Whatcom County

Chickens, barn cats and bunnies are helping hospice patients in Whatcom County.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Rule No. 1 of hospice care is making sure every moment spent in it is comfortable.

Such is the case for 91-year-old Marilyn Mastor and her family, but comfort doesn’t necessarily have to come in the form of a visit from a relative.

“We are about to embark on a Rainbow Bridge visit,” said Linsdey Witus.

Lindsey coordinates the Rainbow Bridge program run by Animals as Natural Therapy in Bellingham. The program brings barnyard animals to hospice patients across Whatcom County.
