Public hearings heat up in Washington over controversial gun control measures

The proposed bills would require permits for gun purchases, impose an excise tax, and limit sales of guns and ammo in Washington state.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A series of public hearings on gun-related legislative proposals brought dozens of citizens on both sides of the controversial topic to the Washington State Capitol Tuesday.

Legislators are proposing establishing a tax on guns and ammunition; limiting the amount of firearms someone can purchase in a month; and requiring guns to be locked up, unloaded, in cars and homes of gun owners.
