Public attends meeting over Navy Growler jet noise

Whidbey Island residents fight to relocate Navy Growler training due to disruptive noise.

WHIDBEY ISLAND STATION, Wash. — For years, some Whidbey Island residents have been trying to get the noise of U.S. Navy Growlers out of the air space.

The jets — known for their deep, noisy rumble — regularly fly training missions low and loud over Whidbey Island, sometimes from the morning well into the night.

“It, like, jars you,” said Mary Jane Miller. “You’ll be driving along and all of a sudden your whole car shakes and … you don’t know what’s goin on.”
