Port of Seattle challenges council’s SODO housing ordinance

The Port of Seattle is challenging a city ordinance allowing new housing in SODO, citing negative impacts on industry.

SEATTLE — The Port of Seattle is trying to overturn a Seattle City Council decision that allows for more housing to be built in the SODO neighborhood.

The port filed an appeal in King County Superior Court, arguing the council-approved ordinance is an “unlawful spot rezone.” Furthermore, the port argues, most of the developable land covered by the ordinance is controlled by one owner.

The port asked the court to block implementation of the ordinance and hopes it is found to violate state land use policies.
