Beaver Tales is as much a museum as it is a coffee shop, filled with Native artwork, photos and artifacts.
COUPEVILLE, Wash. — The mantra at Beaver Tales Coffee is, “We are still here.”
“We” are the Native American people. The mantra came when customers, presumably tourists, would ask an odd question.
“People would come into the coffee shop and ask if there were still Indians living here,” said Michelle Cladusbid, who owns the shop with her husband, Tony.
That is one of the main reasons the couple opened Beaver Tales on the very ground where 8,000 of Tony’s ancestors once walked.
