SEATTLE — Five years to the day after former Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced bars and restaurants would be shut down due to the spread of COVID-19, business owners in Pioneer Square are more optimistic about the neighborhood’s future than ever before.

The neighborhood was among Seattle’s hardest hit during the pandemic, due in large part to the loss of major sporting events and concerts.
