Pierce County Council approves resolution affirming federal government’s role in immigration enforcement

The resolution reaffirms state law that immigration enforcement is the role of the federal government. The Pierce County Sheriff spoke out against the resolution.

TACOMA, Wash. — Two of the top elected officials in Pierce County have differing thoughts on a resolution that was approved by the Pierce County Council on Tuesday night.

The resolution reaffirms a state law, which limits local governments’ participation in federal immigration enforcement. It also notes the council’s affirmation to providing inclusive access to county services for all residents, immigrants and refugees.
