People experiencing homelessness in Seattle find lifeline in severe weather as outreach ramps up

The dangers of living unsheltered in extreme cold are severe.

SEATTLE — As freezing temperatures and the potential for snow grip Seattle, outreach workers with the nonprofit We Heart Seattle are hitting the streets, offering shelter and support to those experiencing homelessness. 

Many of these workers, including Patrick Burnite, have lived through addiction and homelessness themselves and are now dedicated to helping others find a way out.

“It was a long road, with a lot of ups and downs, but for the most part, it was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life,” said Burnite, who has been clean for four years.
