Part of Five Mile Drive will be closed for Loop Trail construction at Point Defiance Park

All park destinations will remain open during construction.

TACOMA, Wash. — Beginning in May, Parks Tacoma will begin construction on a paved trail at Point Defiance Park. 

The entry to Five Mile Drive from the turn at Waterfront Drive up to Animal Loop Road will be closed to vehicles for one year once construction begins. According to a release, a non-paved detour will be provided for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Parks Tacoma said the construction will increase safety and accessibility in the park by separating pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles.
