CLALLAM COUNTY, Wash. — As deputies process prisoners at the Clallam County Jail, they Are increasingly feeling handcuffed by a severe staffing shortage.
Among the deputies is Jeffrey Erskine who wanted to become a minister, but found his calling inside jail cells.
“I knew there was a lot of need here so this is where I came,” Erskine said.
Erskine is one of just 17 deputies working at the jail right now. The county needs to hire 10 more deputies to be considered fully staffed.
