Although its a relatively small stretch of road, W Green Lake Way N has become a flashpoint for the future of Seattle’s car-free “Keep Moving Streets” that opened amid the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage social distancing.
While some residents in the neighborhood started a petition to reopen the road to cars, with many bemoaning longer travel times for those heading east-west, others argued that the stretch of road — which cuts through Green Lake Park and Woodland Park — should remain closed as it provided a safer route for walkers and bikers.
