The U.S. Senator from Washington serves a six-year term, representing the state in the Senate. Two senators are elected from each state. Cantwell, a Democrat, was first elected to the Senate in 2000. Garcia, a Republican from Yakima, has been a physician for 26 years and is the medical director of Astria Toppenish Hospital.Â
