Leaders discuss possible state impacts from newly announced Department of Defense funding cuts

The Department of Defense announced plans to reduce it’s civilian workforce by up to 8%. As of 2022, there were more than 31,000 civilian DoD employees in the state.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The Department of Defense announced Friday it plans to cut up to 8% of its civilian workforce. It said it plans to fire around 5,400 probationary employees starting next week and will also institute a hiring freeze.
