LACEY, Wash. — State lawmakers may end a longtime bonus program for thousands of teachers in the state.
Budget writers have been told to prepare for a $12 billion deficit over the next four years.
Before he left office Gov. Jay Inslee proposed saving more than $150 million by pausing bonuses paid to National Board Certified teachers over the next four years.
Since 1999, the state has paid those teachers for obtaining the certification.
