In the first month, Washington averaged nearly 10,000 exemption applications per day to the state’s new long-term care tax

During the first 28 days workers were able to unenroll from Washington’s new long-term care benefit, the state received an average of nearly 10,000 exemption applications per day.  

On Monday, a spokesperson with Washington’s Employment Security Department said the state had received 279,465 exemption applications by Oct. 28, the last day updated figures were available. Workers have had since Oct. 1 to file for an exemption. That means the department received an average of 9,980 applications per day during that time period.

Of those applications, 93,039 have been approved. Another 1,037 were marked “incomplete.” Overall, the state
