The state Senate has passed a bill to increase funding for school supplies and maintenance.
OLYMPIA, Wash. — As legislators look for ways to make up for an estimated $12 billion budget shortfall, the Washington state Senate passed a bill Thursday to increase funding for schools.
“It’s probably one of the most important bills that will impact education in this legislative session,” said Sen. Adrian Cortes (D-Battle Ground).
Senate Bill 5192 would boost school district allocations by $120 million a year, said Senate staffers.
The bill passed 46-2.
The money would be used for maintenance, supplies, and operating costs.
