How Trump tariffs are already impacting Port of Seattle

SEATTLE — The Port of Seattle is experiencing a surge in the number of shipping containers arriving at the waterfront, a sign that importers are rushing to get goods into the U.S. before new tariffs take effect.

Sam Cho, Position 2 Commissioner for the Port, says a 30% increase in shipments may seem like a good thing, but in reality, it is a sign of a downturn to come.

“The fear of tariffs is actually incentivizing shippers to front load the shipments,” said Cho. “It creates this chaos in the supply chain for us whenever you have these disruptions.”
