A study found that Amazon often steers its customers toward items it gets paid extra to promote.
Sheena Kalso considers herself a savvy Amazon shopper. She knows some of the products displayed in Amazon’s search results are sponsored content.
“I know somebody’s paying to get my attention, so it does make me a little hesitant,” said Kalso. “I wonder, is it the best option for me or are they paying to get it in front of my eyes first?”
But when we asked her to take a closer look, even Kalso was surprised by how many products were actually paid advertisements.
