Hikers no longer able to enter Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail

The change aligns with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol policy, which does not allow hikers to enter the United States on the trail.

SEATTLE — Hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail will now have to take a detour on their way to Canada. The change goes into effect on Friday.

The Canada Border Services Agency announced that hikers now have to enter the country through a designated port of entry, as opposed to securing a permit to cross the border on the trail.
