Grunge pioneers Soundgarden vying for induction into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

SEATTLE — Seattle-based Soundgarden, one of the pioneers of grunge music in the 1980s, is a nominee for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. 

Soundgarden, formed in Seattle in 1984, is one of 14 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The popular band was formed by singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. 

Soundgarden dissolved in 1997 after more than a decade of performing and reformed in 2010 before Cornell
