Greenwood rallies around new Mr. Gyros location after explosion leveled old building

A devastating natural gas explosion leveled the restaurant’s original location in 2016.

SEATTLE — Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood is celebrating the return of a local restaurant, Mr. Gyros, nearly nine years after a devastating natural gas explosion leveled its original location.

The eatery will reopen at a new site just two blocks from the original location.

The incident destroyed multiple buildings, including Mr. Gyros, Neptune Coffee, and Greenwood Quick Stop Market, while damaging nearby businesses and residences.
