Former Sumner basketball coach sentenced to 40 years for sex crimes against minors

In court on Thursday, victims and their families spoke about the lasting impacts they are still grappling with from former coach Jacob Jackson’s abuse.

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — On Thursday, a judge sentenced former Sumner basketball coach Jacob Jackson to 40 years in prison for sex crimes against minors. 

Prosecutors initially asked the judge to sentence Jackson to 980 months, or 80 years in prison, while the defense argued for the standard range, asking for 10 years. The judge ruled that while 80 years was excessive, the facts of the case did call for an exceptional sentence, ultimately deciding on 480 months.
