The sheriff’s office said the man’s parachute didn’t fully open, and he hit a rock wall before falling 650 feet.
ENTIAT, Wash. — A man died Sunday in a base jumping accident in Chelan County.
The accident happened about 8:42 a.m. near milepost 202 on Highway 97A, which is several miles north of Wenatchee.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office identified the base jumper as Elliot Barstow, 47, of Entiat.
Barstow was in the process of base jumping when his parachute failed to fully open, according to the sheriff’s office. Base jumping is when people parachute from tall structures, like buildings or cliffs.
