LEAVENWORTH, Wash. — A controversial plan to erect a 70-foot tall, illuminated cross atop Tumwater Mountain over Leavenworth has been withdrawn, Chelan County officials confirmed to KING 5 Wednesday.
The Upper Valley Cross Foundation was behind the project, with a message on its website saying the cross would serve as a “sign of Hope for the Upper Valley of the Wenatchee River,” and they seek to bring a “profound message of love and mercy to the community.”
