Bourbon Street attack leads to renewed calls for safety at Seattle’s Pike Place Market

Advocacy groups and Mayor Bruce Harrell have supported reductions in vehicle traffic, while market officials have opposed major changes.

SEATTLE — After the terror attack along the popular Bourbon Street in New Orleans this week, some Seattle groups have renewed calls to make significant changes to vehicle access at Pike Place Market

In a statement on social media, Seattle Neighborhood Greenways said the deadly attack “highlights the urgent need to rethink Pike Place.”

Since 2011, the organization has pushed for safer streets throughout the city and has lobbied for pedestrian-only streets at Pike Place Market.
