Auburn Police Department fires Jeffrey Nelson following murder conviction

Nelson was sentenced last week to 16 years in prison for the murder of Jesse Sarey in 2019.

AUBURN, Wash. — An Auburn police officer convicted of murder for shooting and killing Jesse Sarey in 2019 was officially terminated from the force Wednesday.

Jeffrey Nelson was sentenced last week to over 16 years in prison for fatally shooting Sarey outside of an Auburn grocery store in May of 2019.

One week before his termination from the police department, a judge sentenced Nelson to 16 years and eight months for the second-degree murder charge and 10 years and three months for the first-degree assault charge.
