As DNR passes ban on net pen fish farming, other agencies push back

Net pens are large floating structures where fish or seafood are grown and have been used in the Salish Sea for four decades.

WASHINGTON, USA — Washington’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has banned the use of commercial net pens in state waters, but Washington scientists say the most up-to-date research was not considered when that ban was put into place, and argue the science shows this practice does not need to be banned.
