Where to Go This First Thursday: January 2016

Ivy Jacobsen: Ethereal[1]Patricia Rovzar GalleryThe delicate world of flora and fauna comes to life as Ivy Jacobsen uses layers of glaze and resin to give each of her oil works with breathtaking depth. The soft color palette employed imbues her images of floral serenity with the slightest hint of magical realism. Opening reception from 6–8.

Tim Cross[2]Linda Hodges GalleryThere’s a freneticism to the complexity of Tim Cross’s art, no matter what hybrid creation method is employed: drawing, painting, tracing, copying images, and pigment transfer onto silk. His newest abstract futuristic pseudo-landscapes continue to push his visions forward with angular collages that don’t allow for a dull viewing moment. Opening reception from 6–8.

Winter Solos I: John Cole, Peter de Lory, and Lois Silver[3]Lisa Harris GalleryTo start the new year, Lisa Harris Gallery is spending two months dedicating its space to six Pacific Northwest artists for small solo shows. The first installment of Winter Solos features John Cole, Peter de Lory, and Lois Silver. The late Cole was one of the regions premiere landscape painters, depicting the surrounding lakes and streams in simple, colorful impressionistic beauty. Lory specializes in black and white nature photographs that pop with rich tonal contrast. Silver paints warm scenes that frequently touch on themes of dancing, boating, and quiet home reflection. Opening reception from 6–8.
