Few albums have single-handedly changed the musical landscape. Pet Sounds is one of those. The Beach Boys’ 1966 masterpiece was groundbreaking in terms of its production, instrumental arrangements, and melodic complexity. Its mere existence challenged acts like the Beatles to further experiment and expand their sounds (see: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). Even as the album’s mastermind Brian Wilson struggled with mental illness in the years that followed, Pet Sounds served as a timeless reminder of the beautiful music bouncing around in his brain.
To celebrate the album’s 50th anniversary, Wilson has planned a tour where he’ll play Pet Sounds in its entirety for the final time. On October 8, tour stops at the Paramount Theatre. God only knows what you’ll be without a ticket. (Probably just bummed out.)
Tickets for Brian Wilson at the Paramount go on sale this Friday, January 29 at 10am on stgpresents.org[1] or by phone at 877-784-4849. Seats cost $51–$121.
