Seattle drivers should brace for occasional delays on Interstate 5 starting this week as major repaving and expansion joint replacement projects get underway.
Beginning Monday, the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will begin work on a two-phase “Revive I-5” construction project meant to extend the lifespan of the freeway.
The first phase of the $25.7 million project will remove a thin layer of concrete from a 1.25-mile stretch of freeway and repave it. In the second phase, expected to begin mid-July, contractor crews will replace 40 expansion joints on I-5 between Interstate 90 and Spokane Street.
